About the Study

Safe Homes Strengthen Families

The Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress, part of the Uniformed Services University, studies everyday safety habits in military and civilian families. We want to learn how families approach safety today, what they’ve done in the past, and what beliefs shape their decisions.

Part of the study looks at choices about owning and storing firearms. We understand families make these decisions in different ways, based on their needs, values, and experiences. We aim to understand these decisions—not to judge them or question anyone’s right to own a firearm.

How You Can Help

We invite military-connected adults who live with at least one adult or child family member to take a short, anonymous online survey. It takes about 10 to 20 minutes. After finishing the survey, some people will be invited to participate in an optional virtual focus group to talk more about their views on home safety.

Why It Matters

Military and veteran families have important experiences to share about home safety. What we learn from you will help us build tools that make homes safer.

Your Voice Can Help Shape Real-world Solutions for Military Families

If you are a military-connected adult with at least one other family member in your household, we would like to hear from you. Check back here soon for a link to our survey.
